Sibanthracite Plants More Than 612,000 Trees in Siberia in 2025

Verkhneteshsky Open Pit Mine and Kuznetsky Yuzhny Open Pit Mine have completed spring planting on forest lands in the Kemerovo Region. In the Chebulinsky, Guryevsky, Yashkinsky, and Yaysky districts, over 612,000 Scots pine and Siberian spruce trees were planted by the Sibanthracite Group enterprises across an area of 204 hectares. Within a short time, the one-year-old seedlings will take root, grow stronger, and develop into mature spruce forests that will stand for at least 300 years.

Tree planting is scheduled for autumn of 2025 in Novosibirsk Region, where Vostochny Open Pit Mine will plant 200,000 coniferous trees on reforestation-designated lands in the Toguchin District. The new forest will cover 100 hectares.

The planting stock for reforestation is being supplied by certified contractors. Seedlings are grown in greenhouses in advance and are at least one year old by the time of planting, which ensures a high survival rate.

According to the Sibanthracite Group’s Chief Ecologist, Nina Lipatova, restoring Siberian forests is one of the company’s key environmental priorities:  “Prolonged forest fires that have swept across Siberia in recent years have destroyed vast areas of coniferous forests. In addition, illegal logging has also caused significant harm to the region’s natural environment. It is our duty to restore the natural wealth of the Siberian Federal District and preserve it for future generations.”

The Sibanthracite Group was among the first Russian companies to undertake large-scale reforestation efforts. Since 2020, the company has been actively participating in the national ‘Ecological Well-Being’ project and the federal ‘Forest Conservation’ program, which are both aimed at protecting and sustainably developing Russia’s forest resources. Sibanthracite plants hundreds of thousands of trees in the regions where it operates every year. Beyond reforestation efforts, the company also plants trees in urban areas — in parks, squares, alleys, near administrative and cultural centers, and around residential areas. In 2024, Sibanthracite Group enterprises planted 785,000 coniferous trees across Siberia, and since 2018, the total has exceeded 5 million trees.
